Ohio Third Frontier Adds New Programs to Create Jobs and Strengthen Tech-Based Economy

COLUMBUS – Ohio Third Frontier added three new programs focused on moving technology products to the marketplace faster, creating jobs and strengthening the tech-based economy in Ohio. The requests for proposals were released May 2013 and may be submitted at any time.

“Ohio is dedicated to innovation. We are investing in technology that supports the industries of tomorrow, making us a leader in development and commercialization while creating jobs,” said David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency and chair of the Ohio Third Frontier Commission.

Pepperidge Farm Breaks Ground on $93 Million Expansion in Willard, Ohio

Willard, OH. June 20, 2013. Pepperidge Farm, Incorporated today broke ground on a $93 million expansion of its plant in Willard, Ohio. John Kasich, Governor of Ohio joined Denise Morrison, Campbell Soup Company’s President and Chief Executive Officer and Irene Chang Britt, Pepperidge Farm’s President, in a ceremony to mark the start of construction on the project.

The investment will be made over the next two years and result in the installation of a new Goldfish cracker production line and a 227,000 square foot expansion to the site. It is expected that 50 new jobs will be created once the project is completed in May 2015.

HB 198 would allow parcel owners to be excluded from TIF incentive districts

On Wednesday, Ohio Rep. Jim Butler (R-Oakwood) introduced HB 198, which would require political subdivisions that are proposing a tax increment financing (TIF) incentive district to provide notice to the record owner of each parcel within the proposed incentive district before adopting the TIF resolution. These owners would be permitted to exclude themselves from the incentive district by submitting a written response to the notice which stated that preference.

Council of Development Finance Agencies selects three Ohio receipts of distinguished award

The Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA) recently announced that it will award the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority (TLCPA) with the CDFA Distinguished Development Finance Agency Award (Local Agency) in recognition of the fact that its "collaboration, public-private partnerships, energy retrofitting, and low-cost financing" have proven to be a "catalyst for revitalizing the region," a press release from the council announced. The Columbus-based Finance Fund also will receive an award for its "ability to apply New Market Tax Credits" to fund a $100 million redevelopment project in downtown Kent, a project that includes the new $15.4-million Kent State University Conference Center & Hotel. Finally, U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio) will be given the CDFA Federal Development Finance Leadership Award for "advancing development finance" through historic preservation, reshoring manufacturing, and clean-energy investment initiatives.

These awards, which "honor excellence in the use of financing tools for economic development, as well as the individuals who champion these efforts," will be formally presented during the 2013 CDFA National Development Finance Summit in Washington, D.C., on August 8.

The third annual Youngstown, Ohio Utica and Natural Gas Conference & Expo (YOUNG) undefined Ohio’s premier business to business Utica Shale forum undefined will take place Sept. 12  and 13.
