Ohio Tax Credit Authority
Approves 11 Projects

The Kasich administration recently announced that the Ohio Tax Credit Authority (TCA) had approved tax credit awards for 11 projects set to create 733 jobs and to retain 310 jobs statewide. These projects are expected to generate more than $35 million in new payroll and $152 million in investments statewide. The approved projects are:

Ride Corporation will receive a 35 percent, six-year Job Creation Tax Credit for a new location project at a location (to be determined) that is expected to create 40 full-time positions and to generate $1 million in additional payroll.

SK Food Group dba SK Food Group NAHQ will receive a 55 percent, 10-year Job Creation Tax Credit for a new location project at a location (to be determined) that is expected to create 253 full-time positions and to generate $7.7 million in additional payroll.

Rudolph/Libbe Companies Wins 2013 Build Ohio Award for PRO-TEC Continuous Annealing Line Facility

LEIPSIC, OH – Rudolph/Libbe Inc. and GEM Inc., of the Rudolph/Libbe Companies in Walbridge, OH, have been honored with a prestigious 2013 Build Ohio Award for their work on PRO-TEC Coating Company’s Continuous Annealing Line Facility in Leipsic. The awards were announced on November 15 by the Associated General Contractors (AGC) of Ohio in Columbus.

The project won top honors in the category of New Construction over $30 million.  This is Rudolph/Libbe’s 10th Build Ohio Award.  Rudolph/Libbe Inc. served as design/build contractor for the PRO-TEC project.
 GEM Inc., one of the Rudolph/Libbe Companies, performed steel erection, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work.  The 462,000-square-foot building included a main structure, a high bay, office space and a diesel fire pump building.

Carfagna's Hunger for Expansion

Carfagna’s, a local family-owned and operated grocery store, has been serving its Ohio customers for more than 75 years.

Today the company is run by the third generation, Sam and Dino Carfagna who’ve added “Carfagna’s Kitchen,” a restaurant where people can come and enjoy the same quality of food and service they’ve received in the store.

Expanding the business again with the help of the Ohio Statewide Development Corporation and PNC Bank, Carfagna’s acquired and improved the real estate located at 3518 Johnny Appleseed Court, Columbus, OH. The facility is an 11,000 square foot industrial/warehouse building that houses the manufacturing and food production portion of their business.

Dayton Requests $3 million in State Funding for a $55 million Development Project that would Create 260 New Jobs

According to an application recently submitted to the Dayton Development Coalition (DDC), the City of Dayton is "seeking $3 million in state funding to help an undisclosed user build a new 250,000 square-foot facility in the greater downtown area," the Dayton Daily News reports. Code named Project Elwood, the $55 million proposed development is among 92 applications that the DDC has received as part of the 2014 State Capital Bill process, in which the coalition ranks and then recommends that certain projects receive funding from the state. The application says that the facility would be near the company's existing location, but the company itself remains undisclosed. If realized, the project would result in 260 new hires over the next few years, "in call center personnel and IT support, sales, marketing and support services," the article said.

Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. Picks former ODSA Chief to be its New President and CEO

The Seneca Industrial Economic Development Corp. recently named David Zak, chief of the Business Services Division at the Ohio Development Services Agency (DSA), as its new president and CEO, The Courier reports. Zak will replace Rich Focht, who is "retiring at year-end after 24 years in the post." Prior to his current position, which he has held since 2011, Zak served as the vice president of the Greater Springfield Chamber of Commerce, the economic development director for Fairfield County and as the international business liaison for the Ohio Department of Development.

Franklin County Expects to Direct $4 million in New Sales Tax Revenue
Into a Newly Established Economic Development Fund

Next year, Franklin County commissioners expect to place more than $4 million into a newly created economic development fund through a temporary quarter-penny sales tax increase that goes into effect Jan 1, 2013, and runs through Dec 31, 2018, The Columbus Dispatch reports. Approved in September, the sales tax increase will be used to "pay for business loans, infrastructure upgrades, worker training and other development aid." In addition to the fund, money from the sales tax increase will also be used to increase the amount given to Columbus 2020 and Experience Columbus, with the two earmarked in next year's budget to receive an additional $300,000 and $625,000 respectively, the article said.

Port Authority Executive Director to Retire

The Southeastern Ohio Port Authority Board of Directors announced on Tuesday, November 19, at a special monthly meeting, that Executive Director, Terry Tamburini, will retire as of December 31, 2013. Tamburini has chosen to dedicate more time to teaching (his first love) and sharing his expertise and vast knowledge of economics with others as a private consultant.

Tamburini began his career with the Port Authority in April, 2010 as interim director. He was named Executive Director Oct. 16, 2010.

The First Annual Cincinnati USA Regional Economic Development – 101 Forum is a half-day program designed to provide an advanced introduction to economic development for elected officials, community and business leaders of the 15-county region located at the intersection of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana – called Cincinnati USA. The Forum will allow participants to learn about available resources, strategic partnerships and development issues affecting economic development within our community and how to best use scarce resources and most effectively work together to grow our dynamic regional economy.
