Ohio Among 16 States to Achieve
Record Export Levels in 2013

According to the U.S. Commerce Department, Ohio was among 16 states that set new records for exports in 2013. That year, the state achieved $50.5 billion in exports, an increase of 3.9 percent from its 2012 total of $48.6 billion. An additional 10 states experienced merchandise export growth in 2013. "Total merchandise exports from the 50 U.S. states helped contribute to the record-setting value of goods and services exports, which reached $2.3 trillion in 2013" – a new record for the fourth consecutive year.

Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber's Minority Business Accelerator Launches its $1.7 Million GrowthBridge Fund

The Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber's Minority Business Accelerator (MBA) recently announced the launch of the first phase of funding for its L. Ross Love GrowthBridge Fund, which will "provide debt capital to finance growth projects of established, highly competitive, African American- and Hispanic-owned firms in the region," The Cincinnati Herald reports. Since the fund was announced in June 2013, it has "raised more than $1.7 million from 28 investors representing both corporations and private commitments." Fundraising will continue until July 31st to "secure a goal of at least $2 million," the article said.

9th Annual Business Matchmaker provides Ohio small businesses networking opportunities

It’s where government and businesses come together, and it’s time for Ohio businesses to register. The Ohio Business Matchmaker runs from 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Hope Hotel, just outside the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton.

“This is a great opportunity for Ohio businesses to support and grow other Ohio businesses,” said David Goodman, director of the Ohio Development Services Agency. “Not only do we provide small businesses access to numerous buyers at once, we’re finding out what goods and services they provide in advance to connect them with the proper buyers.”

Warren Business Exchange to Expand Business Services
Warren Redevelopment & Planning Corporation

The Warren Business Exchange, a program of Warren Redevelopment and Planning Corporation, was designed to provide structured guidance for existing early stage and start-up businesses in Warren, Ohio.  Formed in 2011 with the support of the city of Warren, the WBE is a hybrid business incubator designed to nurture, support and strengthen the "business - side" functions of each member business.

The WBE was established to provide support for local entrepreneurs and newly established businesses, because it was observed that though many entrepreneurs understood their products and services, they were not always focused on business operations.  For example, many start-up businesses have had weak accounting systems, weak or nonexistent market research, and no experience in business procedures.  This has led to a number of business failures within the region.
